Sat @ the ZOo

On Saturday, I went to the ZOo to attend the launch of Malay story books written for the P1. Malay books? Ya, its Malay books written by 10 teachers and my ML coordinator happened to be 1 of the authors. So I was there to represent school to show our support to her. In the first picture, she ( Amnah) is the second one from the right. Wearing red, very striking, right? :P
Well, many might not like to go to the ZOo as (1 ) its located so far from "civilisation" (2) its doesn't smell very pleasant (3) its a hot hot place (4) its a waste of time

For me, its a different story. (1) its quite near my place -- 30 minutes journey (2) I don't mind the smell (3) I admit its hot but the problem lies in our geographical location, not the ZOo (4) there was another school function at the same time, I rather go to the ZOo

The launch of books started at 9.30am. Its a simple ceremony, the VIPs kept their speech short, followed by performance from 3 schools, afterwhich is reception. There was an optional ZOo tour after reception, only 3 persons joined the tour ( 1 Malay lady + her daughter + me). The guide brought us to tour round fragile forest, from there I continued to explore on my own.

My last trip to the ZOo was early last year, was there to attend the launch of Chinese Books. I din have time to tour around as we have brought along 30 P1 boys to attend the launch so I was busy looking after them. The ZOo is quite different from my last visit. Though its man-made, the environment looks natural. The enclosures are built to resemble the animals' natural habitats. The ZOo ensures that there is a place for all creatures, regardless big or small.

I always try to visit the ZOos of other countries if possible. So far, I have been to the ZOos of Malaysia ( when I was young), Christchurch, hang outside the ZOo at Tokyo ( because by the time I reached its near closing time) , planned to visit the ZOo at Taipei but was advised not to by a Malaysian family whom we met on the trip. They assured us that Singapore's ZOo is the best. As Singaporean, I was feeling quite proud when I heard it. After visiting the ZOo on Sat, I fully agreed with what they said.

I spent around 3.5hours in the ZOo, managed to watch 1 Animal Show and 2 Feeding times ( Polar Bears and White Tigers) . I will be visiting again when all the construction works are completed.
