For the past 2 days, all of us were attached to various organisations for work attachment. Some of the organisations were Eng Wah, Jurong Bird Park, DHL, CNA, Marriot Hotel, Legends, Asian Civilisation Museum (ACM), CID , Changi prison, National Library Board, SGH....the list goes on. It was the 1st time that we spent our retreat in this way, all thanks to the strong parental support group. Well, the attachment might not be very relevant to our job scope, but looking at it from a different viewpoint, ( of course 1 advantage is getting out of school), we get to have a deeper insight to the working life of others. I spent my 2 days in ACM, its a memorable and enriching experience for all of us. In fact its my 1st trip to the ACM eversince the re-opening of the Empress place building in 2003. Just an overview of my attachment: Last Thursday, we attended a 2 hour briefing where the volunteers brought us to tour round the museum. On Monday, we started off with a presentation by the person-in -charge, afterwhich we had a card game. In the afternoon, we chose an area where we wanted to specialise in ( I chose Islamic )and the volunteers gave us a lecture on the selected area of interest. On Tuesday, we continued to learn more in the morning then we took turns to play the role of the guide to the whole group ( there were a total of 15 of us, by Tuesday only left 11). I did not know there are so much to do, to see and to hear from a museum. Its definitely not a boring place which is what I used to think. From the resources that they gave us, we can conduct lessons or bring our friends and family to the museum. Some information for those who are keen to visit the ACM: The permanent galleries are Singapore River, Southeast Asia, West Asia/Islamic and China. The special exhibition gallery is titled Beauty in Asia ( from May till Sept). Entrance fee is at $5/$8 for adult. Its definitely at a affordable price and an excellent venue for dating as you can spend a couple of hours in there.
